Olive Oil Hair Benefits and How to Use Olive Oil for Hair

Oh, the goodness of olive oil! I have discussed olive oil hair benefits in my previous post about the best oil moisturizers for natural hair, but just to remind you, olive oil for hair is one of the wisest choices you can make for your tresses. Admittedly, olive oil is one of the most naturally wonderful products to use in haircare and olive oil hair benefits are known and accepted all over the world.

Olive oil literally quenches your hair’s thirst. It is excellent for moisturizing, deep conditioning, and improving hair strength. At the same time its antioxidants prevent hair loss and dandruff, while your hair shines as bright as ever.

Several products in the market claim to possess olive oil hair benefits due to their composition, but truth is that most of the times they don’t even contain a single drop of natural olive oil, or if they do it is so process that all of its benefits are lost.

So, once again, you want to apply the real thing on your locks. It might be more messy, but it is definitely worth it! Keep in mind that regardless of the shampoo you are using, it is always better to rinse olive oil in hair with olive oil soap. Only then you’ll maintain the olive oil hair benefits you’re looking for, namely shiny and beautiful hair, and will make sure the oil has been properly rinsed. Read on for 3 olive oil hair mask recipes.

Mask 1: Olive Oil Hair Benefits

Although you can use warmed up olive oil directly into your hair, you can also amplify its beneficial power with a couple of additions. For our first mask you will need:

Ingredients

  • ½ cup olive oil
  • 5 drops of essential oil

Directions

  1. Pour olive oil into a jar and then add the essential oil of your choice.
  2. Put the lid on and shake well to combine the oils.
  3. Let the mixture rest for 24 hours in a cool, dark place.
  4. Then rinse your hair with warm water and make sure the mixture is again thoroughly combined (shake again).
  5. Massage the olive oil into your hair and scalp gently.
  6. Cover your hair with a shower cup to avoid making a mess.
  7. Let the olive oil moisturize your hair for 30 minutes.
  8. Rinse well, then shampoo and condition as usual.

Mask 2: Olive Oil Scalp Benefits

Another version of this mask is suggested for scalp-related issues. It will help you harness all olive oil hair benefits that have to do with the prevention of dandruff. You will need:

Ingredients

  • 2 tsp. fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tsp. olive oil
  • 2 tsp. water

Directions

Mix ingredients well, apply to your hair, rinse and shampoo as usual. The acidity of the lemon will help remove the dry flakes, while the oil moisturizes your scalp preventing dandruff.

Mask 3: Olive Oil and Honey for Your Ends

Finally you can spice things up with this final recipe, which includes honey. For this sweet twist on olive oil for hair you will need:

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp of honey
  • 3 tsp extra virgin olive oil

Directions

Again mix well, microwave the mixture for 40 seconds and wait for it to cool, until you can touch it without burning your hands. Then apply it to your locks with an emphasis on the brittle ends of your hair, working towards the roots. Leave the treatment on for 30 minutes, than rinse with plenty of water, shampoo and condition as usual.

The results will leave you speechless. Olive oil can do wonders for your hair as well as for your nutrition! Try out for yourselves and let us know how it worked for you!
